Submit an Article to the Friends Newsletter, Preserve!

We Welcome Submissions to the Friends Newsletter and Web Site

The Friends welcomes the submission of articles, photographs and announcements for Preserve!.  We encourage people to share their checklists and other relevant Lakeshore Preserve materials on the Friends Web Site. For information on submitting material, call Roma Lenehan at 238-5406 or send your articles or checklists to rlenehan@charter.net. See the Newsletter Policy for submission guidelines

To reserve space in the spring Preserve! please tell us about your material by June 18, 2008.

The deadline for submitting articles is July 17 , 2008.



Newsletter Policy

Newsletter MissionPreserve! educates members and the public about the Lakeshore Nature Preserve and its ecology, informs people about Preserve news and Friends efforts, and promotes volunteer and outreach programs.

1.       The Communications Committee will produce three newsletters per year of minimal size (4-6 pages).    The Communications Committee will write or find people to write educational articles including history and ecology articles.  However, except as described below, the Committee will no longer write announcements or articles for Friends Committees.

2.    The Committee invites interested parties to write newsletter articles and announcements.

·         Articles (or art)  - ½ page or longer –

1.       The Communications Committee welcomes informative, relevant articles (or photos or art) from Friends Officers and Committees, Preserve Committee, Facilities, Planning and Management staff, Friends members, and Preserve researchers and teachers.  However, due to space constraints, all articles must be 1 page or less.  The Communications Committee has the right to reject or delay material depending on appropriateness and newsletter space constraints.

2.       For planning purposes, to have an article in the newsletter, space must be requested by the assignment deadline.

3.      If you prefer, the Communications Committee will write your article, provided that you supply ALL facts and details two weeks before the newsletter deadline.  This ensures that the article can be assigned, any questions answered, and an acceptable article produced.

4.       All articles are due on the newsletter deadline.  If your cannot meet the newsletter deadline, you must tell the newsletter editor that the article will be delayed so that the editor will hold your place.  Any articles more than five days late may not be included in the newsletter.

·         Announcements (or small photos or art) – should be very short

1.       The Communications Committee encourages the Preserve Committee, Facilities, Planning and Management staff, and Friends Committees to submit short announcements. The Communications Committee has the right to reject or delay material depending on appropriateness and newsletter space constraints.

2.       In order to ensure sufficient space, please ask for announcement space two weeks before the newsletter deadline OR submit your announcement at least one week before the newsletter deadline.  New announcements received after this date will be included ONLY if there is room, with Friends announcements receiving first priority. 

3.       If you prefer, the Communications Committee will write your announcement, provided that you supply ALL facts and details two weeks before the newsletter deadline.  This ensures that the announcement can be assigned, any questions answered, and an acceptable announcement   produced.

5.       All announcements are due on the newsletter deadline.  If your cannot meet the newsletter deadline, you must tell the newsletter editor that the announcement will be delayed so that the editor will hold your place.  At this point delayed announcements may be replaced by other announcements. Any announcement more than five days late may not be in the newsletter.
