Invasive Species Removal

Contact: Tom Helgeson at snug@inxpress.net

Volunteers help to remove invasive plants which threaten the diversity of the native plant communities in the Preserve. Each spring they pull garlic mustard so that the native woodland wildflowers can thrive. They also help to eradicate some of the shrubs, especially exotic bush honeysuckle and European buckthorn which are rapidly replacing native understory species in many areas.  At right, Elaine Prevenas and Cathie Bruner drag buckthorn cuttings from Eagle Heights Woods.
