The
commanding bluff on the south shore of Lake Mendota is noted
for its effigy mounds and the diversity of its woods. Part
of a glacial drumlin, it has never been logged except for
a small portion at the top. Though
originally owned by the University, the Eagle Heights Natural
Area was acquired by Ed Young as part of the purchase agreement
for Picnic Point. In
the early 1950’s, Tom Brittingham purchased the Property
from Young’s widow and donated it to the University.
