Bird Checklists of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve

The birds take advantage of the varied habitats of the Preserve.  Here, a pair of Red-breasted Merganzers, one with a fish, swim near Frautschi Point.

The Bird Checklist Project, part of the larger Preserve Bird Project, has shown that more than 255 bird species have occurred in the Preserve in the past 25 years.  At least 220 (87%) of these bird species have been observed between August 1999 and August 2001.  In 2000, 2001, and 2002 the Breeding Bird Study confirmed the nesting of 69 bird species.

The short Preserve Bird Checklist shows species abundance by season.
