Big Woods

“Big Woods” is a nickname for a beautiful old woods, consisting of  approximately 30 acres located west of Bill’s Woods and between the Eagle Heights Apartments and University Houses on the UW-Madison campus.

“Big Woods” has been officially recognized as part of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve.  By protecting and appropriately managing this area, nicknamed “Big Woods” for its very large trees, the University will ensure that its wonderful wildflowers and native plants are protected from disturbance and invasion by non-native invasive species.  Birds and animals will continue to thrive in its quiet shade.  We are indeed fortunate that this important natural area has been preserved for all these years!
