Obstacles to Using the 1918 Marsh for Education & Possible Solutions

Obstacles to Educational Use

1.  Low diversity of plants for classes to identify and study.

2.  Low visibility of birds and mammals due to the height and density of cattails.

Possible Solutions

1.  Increase plant diversity.  For information on this options, follow this link:

2.  Decrease number and density of cattails, at least in certain areas of the Marsh (see link above).

3.  Cut the cattails at a few selected spots (such as in front of the platform) to create viewing opportunities.

Additional Possible Solutions

1.  Build a viewing tower.

2.  Put higher dirt piles around the Marsh for viewing.

3.  Extend platform further into the Marsh so that the open water is visible.

4.  Build a Boardwalk (preferably it should have a view of the open water).
