Frequently Asked Questions

Email Help - Spam Help

What does the [SPAM-TAG] mean?

The [SPAM-TAG] is attached to incoming messages that the e-mail system has determined to likely be SPAM.

While most messages with the [SPAM-TAG] are spam, some legitimate e-mails may be tagged as well, which is why they are not automatically deleted.

The [SPAM-TAG] allows the user to filter these e-mails how they see fit. Many users filter these e-mails to a special folder, to review at a later date.

If you elect to automatically delete [SPAM-TAG] e-mails, please be aware that you may delete a legitimate message.

The e-mail system applies the [SPAM-TAG] through many different criteria, including, but not limited to, key words, lists of known and suspected spammers, suspected false return addresses and more.

How do I make a filter?

Step 1: Click on the 'Options' icon in the top menu.

Step 2: Select 'Filters' from the list of options.

Step 3: Select 'Edit Your Filter Rules.'

Step 4: Select 'New rule.'

Step 5: Create your filter. An example would be filtering any e-mail that contains the word 'Viagra' in the subject line to your trash.

Save your filter when done.

What is a whitelist and a blacklist?

When you receive an e-mail, you have the option to click on the 'whitelist' or 'blacklist' option.

If you 'whitelist' an e-mail, that means it will be delivered. Some users may prefer to only accept e-mails that they've 'whitelisted,' much like a person has an unlisted phone number.

You may also filter whitelisted e-mails to a special folder to help organize your mailbox.

If you blacklist an e-mail this will delete an e-mail before it is delivered to you.
